Pilates

Pilates is the ultimate core workout. Pilates trains the body as a whole allowing the body the stretch, strengthen improving posture muscles creating a more streamlined body. Pilates was first created by Joseph H. Pilates in the early 1900s. He started this form of exercise as “The art of Contrology” The ability of the mind to control the muscles. Plagued by asthma and rickets as a child Joseph began to heal himself with his method. His immigration to New York City allowed him to set up his first official studio in 1926.
Joseph continued to develop his method and continues his legacy through years of research and training that has been passed down through his students. Celebrities, dancers, and athletes all use this amazing form of exercise to get optimum results.

At Mindful Movements we will effectively teach you how to engage the proper muscles so you to can see the amazing results from this form of exercise. From using the mat to using small pieces of equipment to the Pilates machines (GTS) we have it all to help you stand taller and be stronger.

Yoga

Yoga is an ancient discipline in which physical postures, breath practices and meditation are practiced. By focusing on your body and your breath in your yoga practice, you learn to be fully present. Allowing yourself to be fully present in your practice is not an easy task, but with continued focus and attention you will learn that this focus will help you cleanse, clear and renew the body and mind. The physical effects from the asanas (poses) are truly remarkably but the personal exploration and learning is astonishing. You will tone and lengthen your body, feel a greater state of calm and become a more balanced human being. At Mindful Movements we will guide you through the poses, helping you to reach your full potential in each posture. Our cues are top notch so you can focus fully on your practice without any worry if you are doing a posture incorrectly. We want you to feel your best. Yoga is for everyone.

Information about OM

The most sacred object of meditation is the symbol OM. OM is the one eternal syllable of which all exists. The past, the present, and the future are all included in this one sound, all that exists beyond the three forms of time is also implied in it. Om is believed to be the basic sound of the world and to contain all other sound. It is the mantra or prayer in itself. If repeated with the correct intonation, it can resonate throughout the body so that the sound penetrates to the centre of one’s being, the soul.

Chakras

According to Vedic seers, whenever two or more channels of subtle energy meet, there is a vortex, which they named ‘chakra’, meaning ‘wheel’. Because these energy concentrations appeared to them to be funnel-shaped, multi-coloured and related to spiritual qualities, they became associated with the sacred lotus.

Where major energy flows coincide- on the midline of the body in the front of the spinal column - the seers of India saw seven main chakras that seemed to mirror both health and the spiritual state.  These seven chakras were like the muti-dimensional gateways that would allow the individual to access different experiences and states of consciousness. The use of visualization, sound, mudra, meditation and postures to activate, cleanse and integrate these seven chakras became an important part of the spiritual practice, especially in the Himalayan regions of India, Nepal and Tibet. Each student, under the guidance of an experienced teacher was taught the appropriate methods to activate and integrate every part of the chakra system in a balanced and safe way.

The seven chakras and corresponding colour include the base chakra (red), the sacral chakra (orange), the solar plexus chakra (yellow), the heart chakra (green), the throat chakra (purple), the brow chakra (blue), the crown chakra (clear or rainbow). The Physical postures (asanas) are designed to tone and stimulate the chakras helping to bring more balance to our lives. As individuals we each have a predisposition to certain chakras being more dominant than others. If we can identify the chakras that need balancing, we can help ourselves a great deal in our journey towards our full potential and wellbeing.
